The major part of Lake Champlain is situated in the State of Vermont. In Burlington you can embark on a cruise on Lake Champlain or stroll down Church Street, only four blocks long, but plenty of action into its short length. Granite quarries were founded at Barre in 1812 and are still operating today ; you can find the work of expert stone workers in public sculptures and in Hope Cemetery. A covered bridge, white-spired church and weathered barns, that’s everybody’s image of Stowe, Vermont. After their escape from the nazis in Austria, the von Trapp Family found a refuge in this village ; their descendants still run a hotel there. Other assets of Vermont : the beautiful colors of the Indian Summer and the ski opportunities.
