Hartford is the state’s capital in which the famous author Mark Twain lived for many years. His house still is one of the major cultural attractions of the town. In Bridgeport one can visit the P.T. Barnum Museum, in honor of the man who invented circus. His “Greatest Show on Earth” traveled all over the world. Mystic Seaport recreates a historical seaport village as part of one of the most prominent maritime museums in the States. Located in East Haddam, the unique Gillette Castle is the 1919 home of William Hooker Gillette, known for being the actor who played the original Sherlock Holmes. Lake Compound theme park in Bristol features a 1927 wooden roller coaster and a 1911 carousel. Located in Woodstock, Roseland Cottage or The Pink House remains much as it was in the 19th century, when it was often used to entertain guests, including US presidents.
