Waikiki, with its beautiful stretch of oceanfront beach, is Hawaii’s biggest tourist attraction.  Diamond Head State Monument sits at the end of the crescent-shaped beach. Less than an hour away from Honolulu, the Polynesian Cultural Center portrays the culture and daily life of the islanders through music, dance and craft demonstrations.   Pearl Harbor is a National Historic Landmark and active military base that earned its place in history for the 1941 attack, the USS Arizona Memorial floats above the remains of the sunken ship.  The centerpiece of Volcanoes National Park, Kilauea, has been active as recently as 2018.  The highest mountain in Hawaii, Mauna Kea, is a world away from the tropical paradise one imagines : the summit is often very cold, with snow in the winter months.  Located on Maui, Haleakala National Park offers access to the inactive Haleakala Volcano.  Waimea Canyon on the island of Kauai is often referred to as the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific”.  The village of Father Damien is located on the Isle of Molokai.
